The contents of a balikbayan box are shaped by history, colonialism and Filipino ideas about family. For the box design I decided to add small phrases and sayings that are often used when families reconnect through phone calls and letters. I further emphasized this connection by using both Tagalog and English on each side of the box.
This project further explores this special connection and bridge to loved ones living far away and is a way to inform others about this important aspect of Filipino culture.
